Rapper Nicki Minaj has canceled her concert in Saudi Arabia next week, explaining that she works because she wants to support the rights of women and the LGBT population in that country.
The announcement of the announcement for her concert caused numerous public reactions, and many wondered how her dress combinations and cursing texts would be accepted in an ultraconservative state such as Saudi Arabia.
"After careful observation, I decided not to hold a scheduled concert at the Jeddah Festival. Although I would like to play in front of my Saudi Arabian fans, having learned a lot about the problems that exist in this country, I realized that it is more important to support the rights of women, LGBT population and freedom of speech, "Minaj said in a statement to the public.
The American human rights organization wrote an open letter to the rapper asking her to cancel the concert. They were asked to refuse the money that was offered to him and to use his star status and influence to request the release of women activists detained.
Singer Mariah Carey earlier this year received a similar request to cancel the concert, from the same organization as Nicki Minaj. Last December, Reber Nelly gathered a large amount of public condemnation because he held a concert in Saudi Arabia where only men could attend.
